Critically evaluate psychologists' contributions to the promotion of pro-environmental behaviours

Introduction

For a longtime, psychology has been predominantly concerned with examining human behaviour and how its influenced by the environment they live in. But in an era dominated by what humans are doing to the environment and the consequences such as climate change, pollution and poor use of resources or a lack of focus on sustainability, environmental psychology attempts to merge the discipline of traditional psychology with the contemporary issues of the environment to try and understand how best to understand the behaviour driving environmental destruction and tackle it efficiencly. In this essay, the author thus critically looks at psychologists contributions to the promotion of pro-environmental behaviour today looking at both arguements for their contribution and its effectiveness as well as counter arguements.
